Security apparatus has been further tightened in the Federal Capital in wake of recent suicide attack on Prime Minister-designate Shaukat Aziz, who narrowly escaped unhurt on Friday in Fatehjang, sources informed Business Recorder on Saturday.

Senior Official of the Islamabad District Administration told this scribe that a high-level meeting was held here with Chief Commissioner Islamabad Junaid Iqbal Chaudhry in the chair to review overall security arrangements in Islamabad and devise a foolproof mechanism to avert any unpleasant incident in Capital.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Tariq Mahmood Pirzada, IGP Fayyaz Ahmed Khan Toru, SSP Shahid Nadeem Baloch, DSP Special Branch and other senior officials of the district administration and ICT Police also attended the meeting.

Chief Commissioner directed the authorities to enhance this effort and beef up security already on red alert asking the SSP Islamabad to take special security measures to maintain law and order as well as avoid any terrorist activity, official said.

However, sources said the district administration will not call any Pakistan-Army troops to co-ordinate with ICT Police in maintaining peace.

Security has also been beefed up in the vicinity of the airport, diplomatic enclave, worship places, sensitive government installations, guest houses, slum dwellings, Afghan katchi basti in I-11 and other suspected places which could create security risk, sources added.

The meeting was also considered deployment of commandos at the rooftops of all buildings near the diplomatic enclave and executive offices in Islamabad.

Capital Police will also seek help from intelligence agencies to maintain law and order.

Police personnel in plain clothes with sniffer dogs had also been deployed to avert criminal and terrorist activities in commercial areas.

Special Branch will strictly monitor the movement of foreigners at the guesthouses and entry/exit points of Islamabad.

Earlier, Interior Minster Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat convened a meeting the of ICT Administration in the ministry, which was also attended by the IGP, SSP and DC Islamabad to discuss the law and order situation.
